TACT attended its first Congressional Meeting with a Staff Representative of Congressman Randy Forbes regarding our support of the Parental Rights Amendment on Thursday, August 13. We met at a Chick-fil-a beforehand to brief everyone and gather our thoughts before heading over the Congressman's district office for a very enjoyable meeting with the Staff Representative.

One TACT member also attended a Congressional Meeting with a staff aid of Senator Warner, along with 5 adults, regarding the PRA and the U.N. Rights of the Child Treaty (expressing concern and disapproval of CRC).

A couple more congressional meetings are in the works. Stay tuned and keep up the good work!

Generation Joshua & Parental Rights Amendment

TACT has discussed this issue for the past several months at least, but if you're unfamiliar with the Parental Rights Amendment and how it seeks to counteract the threat of the U.N. "Rights of the Child" Treaty, please visit ParentalRights.org for more information. :-)

There are 3 things TACT is encouraging all its membership to do, and recruit others to do as well:

1. Contact your Reps (Congressmen, Senators) in favor of the Parental Rights Amendment (PRA), and voicing your concern/disapproval of the UN CRC. Most everyone has already done this, but if you haven't, it's never too late!
https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

2. Join us in visiting our Congressmen and Senators. Currently two meeting are confirmed, more are in the works:

With Congressman Randy Forbes' Staff Aid,
Thursday, August 13th, 2:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake District Office
-and-
Senator Mark Warner's Staff Aid,
Friday, August 21st, 10:30 a.m. at the Norfolk Office.

I've been told that even meetings with staff aids hold exceptional potential to make a very big impact on that Representative's policy leanings. If you are very interested in attending either of these meetings, email me at TACTGenJ@gmail.com for more info. Otherwise, we'd very much appreciate your prayers and support for those of us who are attending. As well as....

3. Collecting signatures for the Parental Rights Amendment!
This is the one way you stand to make the biggest impact - it is recommended that we walk into our congressional meetings with at least 1,000 signatures from local constituents in support of the PRA. I know time is short, but it is especially important when talking with Senator Warner (and potentially Webb) that we be able to make a BIG statement. So attached is a form on which to collect signatures, and here are 3 tips for collecting:
1. Even if you've signed the online petition, you can sign this list as a constituent of your Representative.
2. Everyone age 13 and over can sign.
3. Every signature MUST be accompanied by a valid address - otherwise the signature does NOT count.

If everyone can just print out one sheet and fill it up with signatures, it will go a long way towards meeting our goal for our congressional meetings - and a long way towards protecting the rights of parents!

Update 7/19

Just a quick update on what's going on with TACT...

1. Our fundraiser at the Smithfield Farmers Market was a success! We raised $90 total, and after reimbursing the materials for iced lattes and teas, we will likely gain $55-60! Thank you SO much to the members who came out and helped... we also gather signatures for the Parental Rights Amendment and polled 2 dozen people on their Worldview by asking them to fill out a survey. You all will hear the data we gathered at our next meeting - it will likely spark some interesting and thought-provoking discussions.

2. Our NEXT Club meeting will be Tuesday, AUGUST 4th at the Carrollton Public Library. Same time - 7-9 p.m. We're working on arranging a guest speaker who will tell us about a special ministry operation we can partner with.

3. Our speaking event with the Restore the Founders' Vision group has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 18th. The speakers are confirmed, and I will be reserving the church space ASAP. This will be a HUGE event with a incredible message so invite everybody! I'll be sending out a flier shortly. Invite your youth group, your family, your classmates, your liberal friends ;-) This is for EVERYONE. More info to come soon.

July 7 Meeting Update

Here is the update from our meeting this past Tuesday, July 7th.

This Saturday (day after tomorrow - July 11), from 9 a.m. - 12 noon, TACT will be running a booth at the Smithfield Farmer's Market, located in downtown historic Smithfield. We will be selling beverages as a fundraiser, as well as offering information about Generation Joshua and our club. Even if you can't make it to help work the booth, feel free to stop by if you like! :-)

As far as community service projects, we are in the process of applying for the "Adopt-a-Highway" program...
There will be a big Homeless Assistance Day in Suffolk on August 15th (Wednesday), and we've been told that volunteers will be needed for the event. It's over a month away, but you may want to mark it on your calendars in advance.
And finally, on Saturday, July 25th, Life Minstries will be holding a "Prayer seige" outside of the Hillcrest Abortion clinic in Norfolk from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Visit www.Lifemin.net for more information.

Many of you have (hopefully) heard of the Parental Rights Amendment movement, but if you haven't, please visit parentalrights.org for more info. Gen J is partnering with the organization to coordinate efforts to reach our elected officials in support of the amendment and to discourage the passing of the U.N. "Rights of the Child" treaty.
SO, the TACT Gen J club is currently scheduling meetings with our U.S. Congressmen and Senators during the August congressional recess. It would be great to have a ton of students show up at these meetings in support of the PRA. STAY TUNED for when we announce the dates of these meetings!
Also, TACT is working on collecting 1,000 signatures locally in support of the PRA and planning on participating in a national "Phone blitz" July 23-25; calling our reps again and reminding them of our views on the matter. :-)

Finally, we have an exciting TACT-sponsored event coming up! A organization called "Restore the Founders' Vision" (www.rtfv.org) has agreed to schedule some of their incredible members (Delegate Bob Marshall, Mr. Tracy Brown and possibly Senator Ken Cuccinelli) to come speak to us at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Suffolk. The date is still TBD, but will likely be either Saturday, August 1 or Tuesday, August 4. We are very excited to bring the RTFV message to the area and hope you will spread the word to all your friends - it will be a night you don't want to miss! Again, more info to come soon.

The end! (for now)
Sincerely,
TACT Secretary

Welcome to TACT

Welcome to the Tidewater's Active Conservative Teens blog! This site's main purpose is to update and network teens in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia who want to impact our culture and country for the better by actively working to conserve the principles upon which America was founded.
If that sounds like a mouthful, remember it's easier said than done. It takes a lot of work on our part, but thankfully we manage to have a ton of fun in the process and - more importantly - are hugely rewarded when we see all our efforts paying off and our community benefiting. Even more than that, our mission is really a long-term thing, because we realize that we are the up and coming generation, and our future, the future of our nation, depends on our actions NOW.

Whether it's working to elect a good candidate to public office, visiting with current officials to hold them accountable to their real bosses (us!), serving the public through volunteering, or educating and encouraging our peers about their real gift of freedom, voice, and the responsibility that comes with it; TACT is always up to something.

That's why we have established this blog site. Everyone is welcome to comment and participate with our projects and events, even non-members (though we'd love to have you join us!) and non-teens (families and adults are welcome!). This is a grassroots effort, and that means it includes everybody. Us teens are simply the driving force behind the whole operation, trying to live out 1 Timothy 4:12, "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity." (NKJV)

We are Tidewater's Active Conservative Teens and we thank you for joining us.
